Customer Reviews

See end of review for updated info.
Ordered Sunday from Easy Buy, arrived wednesday. Up and running inside 5 minutes. Everything works perfectly. Machine came pre-installed with fistfulls of really useful (full version, registered) software including Mozilla Firefox, AVG Antivirus, Adobe Acrobat 9, Java, Win Rar, Open Office and loads more I haven't looked at yet.
Very surprised by the diminutive size of the machine itself. Even though I'd checked the measurements it's a lot smaller than I'd pictured it. It is also incredibly quiet. Very impressed on both counts!
The USB keyboard and optical mouse are basic but do the job just fine. Note that they may vary from those shown in the picture.
My machine came with a DVD-RW drive (which I am chuffed as nuts with!) as opposed to a DVD ROM drive, although the type of drive installed may also vary.
The machine can be situated upright or flat, as described and the DVD drive tray incorporates a locking disk hub, much like most laptops do. (This prevents your disks from sliding around when the machine is upright). The drive bay itself is low-profile, meaning you cannot fit a standard generic desktop drive into it (although I would guess that some laptop drives may fit)
As per the writeup. there is no floppy drive as shown in the picture, although there IS a spare bay, should you care to fit one.
No instruction manual is provided but as with any modern computer, you can't plug something in where it doesn't belong, so there really is no need for one. Installation really is foolproof!
No leads are supplied either, so if this is a first computer then you'll need to buy those separately. If on the other hand you're replacing an existing machine then you shouldn't need any additional hardware.
Update:
=======
Some things they don't tell you...
The on-board graphics adaptor is not capable of running most modern (post 2002) 3d games.
The latest (; probably final) official driver updates for said 82945g Intel express chipset are unstable and widely noted as such among internet communities. Avoid them!
Even the simplest PCI-Express graphics cards require a minimum 305w power supply unit in order to function with stability.... Unfortunately, my Optiplex GX620 only came with a 275w PSU. So? So what?...
Upgrading the PSU on this machine is more hassle than it's worth. Nothing is standard and nothing is as it seems. Solve one compatibility issue and you'll find another... and another...
Long ; short of it? Don't bother thinking you can just upgrade the graphics card... there really is no point trying. Just buy something newer if performance graphics is a factoring issue, as in that department, money really can buy you a dinosaur!
It's a good machine and works perfectly but having never had a Dell before now, I'll probably never have another!

Pleasantly suprised by the compact size compared to some of the older towers I have used .Has feet on one side so can be used in a horizontal position . The Dell logo even revolves for this purpose ! It is also a lot quieter than many pcs and handles tasks such as internet browsing and data disc tasks with ease . Although it doesnt actually burn DVDs . All in all a very competent unit with stylish black and silver looks . The specifications alone make it a great buy .
